888 Yee Sang Party at City Square, Johor Bahru, Malaysia

By on February 16, 2013 in Malaysia

In the City Square Mall in Johor Bahru they appear to be holding some sort of giant Chinese New Year celebration party called ‘888 Yee Sang Party at City Square’.

I was not too sure what Yee Sang is so I did a quick wikipedia on it. Turns out it is a Teochew-style raw fish (usually salmon) salad, which explains why they were laying out long lines of what appeared to be shredded vegetables, and is something that is common in Malaysia and Singapore as part of the Chinese New Year celebrations. The feast is eaten to ‘increase in abundance’ for the new year.

The set-up at City Square appears to be that you pay for a ticket, and then get to sit at a table with your party.

Unfortunately I didn’t have time to wait around the festivities to start. Looks like it was going to be fun though.

Large wheel like device at the end of the hall – no idea what it was for, but looks like it was for some sort of game? In the foreground of the tables containing the raw shredded vegetables covered with cling film (Glad wrap; food wrap)
