Sending a letter to the UK – The Post Office

By on March 5, 2013 in Malaysia, UK

Going to the post office to send a letter to the UK may not seem like a big deal, but it is another part of living in Malaysia…

Local post offices are easy to spot as they are labeled with a very distinctive Pos sign..

Inside is the usual type of post office arrangement, a counter with a barrier on it, and a numnber of cubicals. One nice feature is the ‘queue machine’ (you also see these in banks) which issues you a ticket so you can sit down and wait, and therefore have none of that tedious queuing you get in the UK.

Local stamps are very colourful, although I do seem to have trouble sticking them the right way up on envelopes.

Malaysian Stamps - cost to send a card to the UK RM1.50 (about 30 p UK, or 45 US cents)

Overall a much more pleasant experience than going to the post office in the UK, and significantly cheaper.

An update on the letter to the UK… I send the letter on Tuesday, and it arrived on the Saturday. That's almost as fast as a letter posted in the UK to an address in the UK, and yet sending the letter from Malaysia cost less than sending the letter in the UK.
