Getting from St Anton, Austria to Zurich, Switzerland

By on March 8, 2014 in Austria, Switzerland, Travel Tip

To get from St Anton back to Zurich we decided to go by train.

The train was mobbed with skiers returning to Zurich. We had booked seats, so at least we got to sit down, and just like trains in the UK, there was insufficient luggage space.

The train had free wifi, but it didn’t really work. My guess it was overloaded with the number of users on the train.

The train from St Anton to Zurich takes around 2 hours and 20 minutes and travels through some stunning countryside down through the mountains of St Anton and on to the shores of Lake Zurich.

One odd thing (and this also happened on the 10 min train journey from Zurich central to Zurich Airport), is no one asked to see our tickets…

Travelling to and from St Anton by train was far better than doing the usual ski package coach shuffle as we travelled in relative comfort, had access to food, and arrived feeling relaxed instead of with knees already aching from being crammed on a coach with the seats too close together.

Another bonus is the St Anton train station is located in the centre of town and it is just a few minutes walk to most of the hotels. There are also usually a lot of taxis hanging around outside.
