Skiing Niederau, Austria, ski trip – summary

By on January 12, 2015 in Austria

Overall it was a very good trip.

The Sonnschein Hotel was very nice – warm and comfortable with friendly and helpful staff, and very nice facilities. The hotel was located about 10 minutes from the slopes.

Transfer from the airport was good (about 90 minutes). However, the return was most uncomfortable.

Skiing was mixed. Snow conditions were highly variable with a lot of ice, and very thin cover in places. The local (Niederau) ski hill is very small (one gondola and one quad) with not many trails. There is a free ski bus (15 – 20 minutes) to a nearby larger ski area – Auffach – which offered considerably more skiing. The large ski area of Soll is only 7 km away. However, there is no free ski bus.

The Crystal Ski reps didn’t add value to the holiday, in fact, I only spoke to my rep once, and only saw here around the hotel a few times. The problem was the rep, and Crystal Ski were not very proactive and never sought out their clients.

Yes, I would go back to Niederau again, and in particular the Sonnschein Hotel. Would I use Crystal Ski again? Well, yes, they were cheap, but if I wanted a ski holiday that was ‘made’ by a ski company I wouldn’t choose Crystal Ski….
