EpicMix and the Epic Day Lift card – tracking you on the mountain

By on February 16, 2015 in USA

This is interesting and something I haven’t come across before… Your movements around a ski mountain can now be tracked thanks to an RF enabled card, in this case, the Epic Day Lift card. Interesting. Not to sure what to make of this…

The tracking on the Epic Day Lift currently works at Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone, Canyons, Heavenly, Northstar, Kirkwood, Afton Alps and Mt. Brighton.

To use the card you just ski, and the card is tracked by recorders at the lifts. To view the data you create a free account at http://www.epicmix.com/ and you are tracked by the unique ID on the card.

The data can be viewed on the website or using an iPhone or Android App. I’ve just logged on and discovered I skied quite a bit yesterday.

According to the data, I skied 21,442 vertical feet, earned 608 points (whatever they are) and picked up a bunch of ‘badges’ for things like ‘Afternoon Delight’, ‘Bubble Up’ etc.

Not sure how I feel about this…
