Worst winter for snow in Park City in 40 years? And things have changed…

By on February 18, 2015 in USA

One thing I really like about skiing is chatting with people on the lifts or just around the resort.

As we finished skiing today we were taking a ride on the shuttle bus from the main lodge at Deer Valley back to our car and I got talking to a ‘local’ who has been involved in skiing in the area for 40 years and he stated that this is the worst winter he has ever known for a lack of snow. He seemed almost shocked at how little snow was on the ground and how conditions were more like mid to late March than mid-February.

He also confirmed that The Canyons was indeed previously called Wolf Mountain, that the huge changes at The Canyons were a result of the 2002 Olympics. He agreed that Park City ski area had changed the least in the last 20 years and commented that he thought in the next few years Park City ski area was going to see significant changes as a result of the $50 million investment and the new link lift through to Canyons.
