Birds in Yangon (Rangoon), Myanmar (Burma)

I saw a lot of people selling birds in Yangon (Rangoon) and I am not sure why…. Pets? And I hate to say it… food? I assume pets.

Also, as with most towns and cities, there was a big pigeon population…

Update: In March 2017 I was back in Myanmar and I asked a local about the caged birds and in particular the bird being sold outside temples (see Around the streets of Yangon (Rangoon), Myanmar (Burma)). It appears there is a religious element to the buying and releasing of the birds. You can find out more in the blog post.
