Fishing Museum, Tanjung Balau Beach, Kota Tinggi, Johor, Malaysia

By on May 16, 2015 in Malaysia

Tanjung Balau Beach is a fantastic looking beach. Nice sand, warm shallow water, and popular.

The Fishing Museum is a nice simple museum, very well put together, not large, and not overly informative. Like a lot of Malaysian tourist spots it has certainly had some money invested in it, but now it is falling into disrepair due to lack of investment. The situation is not helped by a RM2 entrance fee – far too low, and I am sure they would raise more money by making it free and collecting donations. No shoes were allowed in the main building, but they can be worn in the side exhibits, one of which was of a local shipwreck, one on sea safety, and a third ‘special’ exhibition on coffins.

The museum also has a filthy aquarium in which it was impossible to see if there were any fish in the tanks (I suspect not), and when I visited the cafe on site was closed, and looked almost abandoned.
