Commonwealth War Graves Commission Cemeteries, Johor Bahru, Malaysia

By on June 27, 2015 in Malaysia

I recently discovered (and I can’t remember which site I saw it on) a blog post saying there were two Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) Cemeteries in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The presence of these war graves struck me as odd as I wasn’t aware of any such cemeteries, and I thought that the nearest CWGC Cemetery was at Kranji in Singapore.

A quick search of the CWGC website produced two results:

  1. Jalan Mahmoodiah Muslim Cemetery, Johur
  2. Johore Bahru Muslim Cemetery

The one thing that was odd on the individual webpages for the cemeteries was that no identified casualties were listed for either graveyard, so I decided to investigate and using the information on [CWGC]((http://www.cwgc.org) I went in search of the cemeteries.

I found the Cemeteries and they were both in the same place, so in fact, it appears it is one Cemetery. Also, there was no evidence, as far as I could see, of any CWGC website involvement, or of any war graves. So why are these two (one?) Cemeteries listed on CWGC website?
