Hill Top Travel and Tour – Mossy Forest, Cameron Highlands, Malaysia

By on August 25, 2015 in Malaysia

Now the Mossy Forest was quite special, and quite good fun, however, after the hard trek earlier in the day to see the Rafflesia it was hard on the legs.

On the road down from Puncak Gunung Brinchang, there are some hidden little paths up to the left that enter the Mossy Forest, which is essentially a cloud forest full of trees covered in moss. It had a real ‘otherworldly feel’ as everything was very soft underfoot, it was very green and mossy, and the clouds were continuously moving up through the trees and over the ridge.

The paths through it were not at all easy and there were a number of steep climbs and you had to be careful as it is slippery, and a trip or a misplaced foot could result in nasty long fall down the hillside.

The look and feel of the forest was stunning….

The place really did a have a weird atmosphere. To me, the sounds seemed muffled as a result of all the moss, and the clouds drifting in and out of the trees made it feel spooky.

The Mossy Forest was small as it essentially ran along the ridge to the right of the road leading up to Puncak Gunung Brinchang, but it was certainly worth the effort of getting out of a car to have look (you will have to take a path up into the forest from the road to get the full effect. The forest has an ‘other-worldly’ feel, and I can honestly say that I had never experienced anything quite like it. Magical.
