Wanderings, travel, photographs and skiing…

Mandoon, Reid Highway, Perth, Australia

By on August 30, 2015 in Australia

Went to the Mandoon Estate, which is about a 30-minute drive from the centre of Perth.

The Estate is a winery (or as I would say – Vineyard), and also has a brewery, a restaurant, and an art gallery on site, and it is hugely popular with visitors. We went on a “winter’s day”, it was sunny, but far from hot by Australian standards, and the place was heaving. We had trouble parking and a 40-minute wait for a table in the restaurant. (We could have eaten outside as there were tables available.)

Tried a ‘taster’ for the local beers, and they were good… and a bit stronger than what I am used to…

Brauhaus Lager: 4.8% alcohol by volume (ABV), a Munich Lager – very nice beer, bit light in taste for me.

Kaisers Choice: 5.0% ABV, Hefeweisen – quite ‘perfumed’. I am not a great fan of Hefeweisen beers, but this one was very nice.

Premier: 4.8% ABV, Belgian Pale Ale – This was a very nice beer. Very very drinkable, and it was a toss-up between this and Thunderbird as to which was my favourite of the beers on offer.

Thunderbird: 5.0% ABV, Pale Ale – This beer reminded me of a number of beers I have had in ths States. Very drinkable, very enjoyable.

Black Swan: 5.0% ABV, Black IPA – Not a great fan of ‘black’ beers as I find the taste a bit heavy, but this one I found to be very drinkable.

I really enjoyed my visit to Mandoon. It’s a very popular place with good beer and nice food.
