Murray House 美利樓, Hong Kong

By on September 5, 2015 in Hong Kong

Murray House 美利樓 is located down on the waterfront at Stanley, Hong Kong, and is one of Hong Kong’s oldest buildings, and was built in 1844 in the Central District as officers’ quarters at the Murray Barracks. It was moved to Stanley in 1998.

When Murray House 美利樓 was moved detailed plans were drawn-up and all the stones were carefully labelled so that the building could be accurately reconstructed. However, it was found, so I was told, that after the work was finished there were 5 pillars left over, and these can be seen in the image below.

Murray House 美利樓 does look rather grand when viewed from Blake Pier 赤柱卜公碼頭, and must have made an excellent officers’ quarters.
