Day 2: Saalbach Ski Trip – Austria

By on March 5, 2006 in Austria

We had a good breakfast (buffet) at the hotel.

Overnight it had snowed and had put down around 6 inches.  I guess yesterday we had driven out of the storm and it had now caught up with us.

Skis were hired from a shop about 200 yards from the Baerenbachhof hotel and the ski pass purchased at the main lift in the town which is about a 10-minute walk from the hotel.  I also discovered that there was a ski bus stop about 200 yards from where we are staying.

The resort used electronic swipe passes.  One annoying thing about the pass I was issued was that it didn’t appear to work very well and required numerous swipes for it to get recognised at the lift barriers.

The first run of the trip was up the Schattberg X-Press and down a really long run to Vorderglemm.  It was a good long run but tough going as it was snowing heavy and the trail was really cut up with a very icy base.

Basically, it was a tough day of skiing as the conditions were difficult.  We found some really good runs and enjoyed a new six-seater lift that had been installed – it had heated seats!!!

In the evening we made use of the sauna and hot-tub in the hotel.  Fantastic!
