Day 3: Skiing in St Anton, Austria

By on December 22, 2009 in Austria

A beautiful day. Clear blue skies and sunshine, and it had warmed up from -13°C yesterday to -5°C.

Snow conditions were great and the piste bashers had done a great job.

I spent the morning skiing over at Rendl. I almost had the place to my self, and I managed to get a few runs in on trails that had hardly been skied.

I managed to ski most trails, and use all the lifts (apart for the one drag) by 11 am. I even managed to get to the top of  Riffelscharte and ski the ungroomed trail 14 (there is only one set of posts marking the route and you have to ski between them). The run wasn’t too bad. A bit crusty, but it was worth the effort for the views. I skied out of Rendl down trail R1 (the start was very poorly marked) back to St Anton.

In St Anton, I went back up the Galzig, down 5 to Osthang, and then down trails 9, 4 and 1 to Mooserwirt for a lunch of Austrian bacon and sausage dumplings in a beef broth, plus a couple of drinks, for €18.

Another great day on the slopes of St Anton.
