Day 1: Skiing in the US – Okemo, Vermont

By on January 20, 2010 in USA

The first day of skiing….

The first part of the morning was spent buying replacement ski clothing that had been lost by American Airlines…. Thanks American Airlines!

Finally, I arrived at Okemo around 10 am and found that the ski area was very quite. Where was everyone?

The weather was mixed, I have had fog, snow and sunshine all in the space if 15 minutes. The fog was mainly at the top of the mountain, that is, it was low cloud.

Snow conditions were mixed. Some runs had a few bare patches, some ice, a lot of packed powder and some powder.

I stopped for lunch in the Roundhouse over at Jackson Gore – $10 for clam chowder and a bottle of water, and $7 for a coffee (latte) and a brownie. Seemed a bit steep to me.

On the plus side, they do have free WiFi so I am able to check email and post this…
