SNAKE!!!!! Or was it a Chameleon?

By on March 15, 2013 in Malaysia

Just had my first snake encounter in Malaysia…

I was walking out to my car when I saw a snake looking at me from under a bush. My first reaction was very scientific… “Wow, a snake! How interesting! I wonder if I can get a photo?” This was almost immediately followed by my survival instinct kicking in “SNAKE! RUN!!!!”.

The correct procedure for where I was visiting was to keep watching the snake (and by this time it had vanished into a bush) and send some one to get security. Unfortunately, there was no one around, so I had to get security. And by the time they arrived, the snake was nowhere to be seen.

The snake I saw was green/brown, quite thin, and about 40 cm long. (I have no idea what it was…)

After security had poked around in the bush a bit they turned up this…

A Chameleon

After some discussion, I got the feeling that the general view was I had mistaken the Chameleon for a snake! I am sure I hadn’t….

Update: Today (Monday 18th March 2013) I heard that security continued its search after I left and did indeed find a snake…
