An insect in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia?

By on April 18, 2013 in Malaysia

Spotted this dead insect on the street Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia.

What is it?

The body is about 4 -5 cm long, and the wingspan over 6 cm.

I think it was real, and yet it has been suggested it is a toy. All I can say is that if it was a toy then it was a very elaborate plaything.

Any ideas?

Update: I have also now been pointed in the direction of this video

This was also been posted on iPost, and on there it was identified as New Forest Cicada (Tacua speciosa).
