Day 1: Skiing Niederau, Austria – first impressions…

By on January 4, 2015 in Austria, General

It appears I am skiing the smallest mountain in Austria. Skied all of it in 2 hours. Only two lifts. One gondola and one 4 man high speed quad. However, there is (reportedly) a good bus service down the valley to a nearby larger area.

Weather is not great. Windy and cold. Snow conditions not good either. Very hard packed powered with loose material on top. The mountain is in serious need of some snow.

On the plus side there are no lift queues. The place is quiet.

Another plus is I have found restaurant on the mountain – Gasthaus Markbachjoch-Alm – that offers free wifi.
