Singapore — Southern Most Point of Continental Asia — Palawan Island, Singapore
I don’t think so!
May 2015
On Sentosa Island, Singapore, near the beach, there is a place that claims to be the ‘The Southernmost Point of Continental Asia’ — well, it isn’t.
The most southerly point of mainland Asia is in Malaysia at Tanjung Piai National Park.
The claim for Palawan Island being ‘The Southern Most Point of Continental Asia’ is bogus, as there is a more southerly point a few miles down the road (see the map below).
The map below shows the location of what is claimed to be the most Southern Point of Continental Asia, and yet, as can be seen on the map (marked ‘What is this?’), there is an area south of Sentosa Golf Club that is further south.
To get to the alleged ‘The Southernmost Point of Continental Asia’, you must cross a bridge from the beach on Sentosa Island to Palawan Island.
It is a rather interesting bridge to cross.
At ‘The Southernmost Point of Continental Asia’, a viewing platform gives a spectacular view of all the ships waiting to enter Singapore Harbour.
The island was a place of fun.
While I was there, I saw at least two birthday parties in full swing, and at one of them, they were playing Twister.
There are also a couple of viewing towers on the island.
And the towers gave great views looking north into Continental Asia (above) and the surrounding sea.
So, a Singapore con is exposed.
What is claimed to be ‘The Southernmost Point of Continental Asia’ is not.
First, you must cross two bridges to get to it (three if you count the causeway from Malaysia), and second, there is a part of Sentosa Island near the golf club further south.
The most southerly point of mainland Asia is in Malaysia at Tanjung Piai National Park.
