Bali — The Paon Balinese & International Restaurant, Ubud, Bali, Indonesia
Eating out on my first night in Bali
August 2015
Finding somewhere to eat in town, particularly on the first night when you haven’t quite got to grips with the local food and the local town, can be tricky.
I walked into Ubud from the Gajah Biru Bungalows (the 20-minute walk was tricky along some dark, narrow roads with no pavements), searching for food.
Ubud was heaving with tourists.
The town of Ubud consisted of one long shopping street, which contained just about any shop you could wish for, plus several temples, some tourist-trap-type shops, and numerous restaurants.
Having wandered around for an hour or so, I finally decided to go to the Paon Balinese & International Restaurant for no reason other than when I was standing outside it, my stomach rumbled.
I had the whole grilled snapper, two scoops of ice cream and a beer for 155,250 Indonesian Rupiahs (£7.40 UK; $11 U.S.) The fish was excellent — delicious and spicy, although a little small. And as I ate, the band played Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd.
Welcome to Bali!
