Hong Kong — Stanley Market 赤柱市集, Hong Kong
Another day, another market
September 2015
Stanley Market 赤柱市集 was another place I visited as part of my Big Bus Tour of Hong Kong. The Market is just along the Stanley Promenade 赤柱海濱長廊.
Stanley Market 赤柱市集 has many small shops selling odds and ends, clothing, souvenirs etc. and is renowned in Hong Kong as a tourist destination for bargain hunters. I couldn’t see the attraction, and I couldn’t find any bargains.
One good thing about the market was that it was quite cool as the shop awnings stretched from one side of the alleyway to meet the awning of the shop opposite; this meant that with each shop blasting out conditioned air, the whole area felt cool with a sort of communal air con going on.
As ever, there were numerous shops selling T-shirts.
There is a mixture of shops and stalls in the market.
The walkway between the stalls is relatively narrow in places.
The bead shops were interesting, and I guess these are available to be made up into necklaces.
I wonder why the shops selling art didn’t allow photographs?
Overall, I was not that impressed with Stanley Market 赤柱市集 as I thought it was the market in Hong Kong for bargains, and yet I couldn’t see any deals to be had. Maybe I wasn’t looking hard enough or needed to develop my haggling skills.
