Laos — Mount Phousi, Luang Prabang (ຫລວງພະບາງ/ຫຼວງພະບາງ), Laos — part 2 of 2

Finally, at the top

September 2015

I thought I was done with the steps; I thought I was near the top.

But, there was one last push up what felt like never-ending steps until I reached the top.

And it was worth it. The view was stunning.

And, of course, there were shrines.

As I left the top of Mount Phousi, I saw three kids playing on an old, rusty piece of metal. At first, I wasn’t sure what it was — I thought it was a bit of old farm machinery. And that made no sense, as there was nothing to farm.

Then I realised it was an old anti-aircraft gun, probably left over from the Laotian Civil War (1959–1975) between the Communist Pathet Lao and the Royal Lao Government (see Wikipedia).

When I thought about it, it made an ideal location for such a thing as Mount Phousi has commanding views of the surrounding area.

I enjoyed my walk-up Mount Phousi, Luang Prabang (ຫລວງພະບາງ/ຫຼວງພະບາງ), Laos. Although the hill wasn’t very high, going up all the steps in the afternoon’s heat was tough. Luckily, most of the route was shaded by trees, as it would have been an impossible hike in the sun.
