Malaysia — Malacca — Christ Church and Queen Victoria Fountain, Malacca, Malaysia
A visit to a church and a fountain
June 2015
Malacca, Malaysia, is an odd town as it has this ‘Disney-like’ feel — mainly thanks to the weird and wonderful bikes you see going around the place. And yet, at the same time, it is one of the few places I have visited in Malaysia with so much colonial history and architecture on display.
Christ Church and the still-functioning Queen Victoria Fountain are two classic examples of colonial architecture.
Christ Church was built in 1753 and is Malaysia’s oldest functioning Protestant church. And the Queen Victoria Fountain was built in 1901 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee.
Seeing things like Christ Church and the Queen Victoria Fountain is odd. They seem very out of place, yet there they are in Malacca.
