Malaysia — Malacca — Kompleks Muzium Maritim (Samudera / Flor de La Mar), Malacca, Malaysia
Visiting a mock-up of a wooden sailing ship
June 2015
This was an interesting little find in Malacca — the Kompleks Muzium Maritim (Samudera / Flor de La Mar).
For RM 6 (£1 UK; $1.50 US), I got entry to two museums focussing on the relationship between Malacca and the sea and chronicling the various periods of Malacca’s colonial history and trade.
The first museum was in the reconstruction of a wooden ship, which is now falling into disrepair; but don’t let that put you off as it does contain several interesting exhibits and does a pretty good job of explaining the local history.
Overall, it was an odd place but worth the entry fee. Sadly, it was falling into disrepair — a common theme in Malaysian tourist attractions — but it contained some interesting exhibits that helped explain the town’s history.
