My first trip to Myanmar (Burma)

This was the start of my first trip to Myanmar (Burma).

Myanmar turned out to be a fascinating country, and I returned to it several times before the Rohingya genocide and the military uprising in 2021.

Back at Senai International Airport (JHB), Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia

My trip started at Senai International Airport (JHB). On this trip, I would be visiting Penang, KL and then on to Myanmar (Burma) — Yangon (Rangoon) and Mandalay.

I was looking forward to the trip because although I had been to Penang many times, I had never visited Myanmar, and I had heard good things.

One weird thing happened at Senai International Airport (JHB). Ground staff told me off for photographing the plane as I walked out to it. I’ve been doing that for years, and no one has ever commented before.

Why can’t I photograph the plane? Are they camera shy?
