Myanmar (Burma) — Sandamuni Pagoda, Mandalay, Myanmar (Burma)
A visit to a stunning pagoda
March 2015
The day after my long walk up to the top of Mandalay Hill, I decided to head back to the Mandalay Hill area to explore some pagodas at the foot of the hill.
The first one I visited was the Sandamuni Pagoda. It was stunning. Beautiful.
Inside the complex was a series of small pagodas erected in 1913 by Ukhan Ti The Hermit.
Each small pagoda contained tablets inscribed with the teachings of the Buddha, and there were 1,774 tablets altogether.
The place was tranquil and relaxing despite the busy roads and people outside. The tinkling of tiny bells and gongs on the top of each mini-pagoda in the breeze added to the stillness of the place.
There was no entry fee, but donations were welcome.
